Paheli

Paheli was an experiment of sorts for Rani Mukherjee. The movie, directed by Amol Palekar, was based on an idea that is at the same time is very alien and very dear to the Indian Psyche. Rani Mukherjee plays wife to a business obsessed super obedient son played by Shahrukh Khan. On their way back from Rani's village, a ghost takes liking to her and tries to seduce her by taking the form of her ever absent husband. The movie demanded a complex yet convincing performance, which Rani produced. The movie was selected as the Indian entry for Oscars in the other languages category. The costumes worn by Rani in this movie were authentic Rajasthani Costumes which made her look the part of the landscape.
